Sivaji Ganesan

Sivaji Ganesan

Born in Sirkali (state : Tamil Nadu), Sivaji Ganesan's real name is Viluppuram Chinnaiahpillai Ganesan.

His talent was undeniable in C.N. Annadurai's play Sivaji Kanda Indhu Rajyam - the highly successful play led to Ganesan being given the name of the character he played.

Ganesan's debut film Parasakthi (1952) was a superhit and he became the face of DMK Films, the studio geared to promoting the political idealogy of the DMK political party. The film remains an important one in Tamil cinema.

The swashbuckling style and versatility that made him a superstar evolved to a maturity that lacks none of the charisma of his youth - for example, the 1970 success Vietnam Veedu (with Padmini).

His famous films include Poongothai/Pardesi and Pempudu Koduku (1953), Manohara (1954), Kalvanin Kadhali (1955), Tenali Raman ( a megahit) and Rangoon Radha of 1956, Makkali Petra Maharasi (1957), Maragatham (1959), Motor Sunderam Pillai (1970), and Pasumponn (1995).
