Odissi

The dance form embodies not merely the precepts of the Natyashastra but is a constant reminder of the cultural ethos that gave birth to it. The postures and moods are reminiscent of the carvings of the Sun Temple at Konarak. The tribhanga is a complicated posture-series of triangles that demands a high level of skill and artistry on the part of the artists. Themes are irrevocably tied to the prevalent devotion to Krishna, and the adaptations (in all art forms) of Jayadeva's poem, the Geet Govinda.

Famous Odissi dancer: (the late) Kelucharan Mahapatri and Dr. Sonal Mansingh.
