Kariyala

A rural theatre similar to the Bhand Jashna . Performances may be held during day and evening, and the actors move leisurely through the audience to get to the playing space (akhara).

A chorus chants hymns while a clown and a female character pantomime and dance on stage. The plots are always loosely- structured and based on stereotypes in situations and individuals. Moral lesson run through stories on money- lenders and policemen, shepherds and sadhus (religious medicants), old men with young wives.
